Emily 04:14
It's a sordid affair, Did you know that all your friends were there? All these courtiers and clowns, And everybody knew what was going down. And if it rains upon your big parade, Then I can tell you what I told you before... You're taking me up to the seventh floor, I'm a-taken aback as you slam the door, you're so contradictory, So take it easy Emily You say your art sets you free, But you've no discernible skills that I can see, Well they say it's a crime, But I feel that I'm the one here who's doing time. Because I'm tired of all your platitudes, I can tell you what I told you before... You're taking me up to the seventh floor, I'm a-taken aback as you slam the door, you're so contradictory, So take it easy Emily All your juggling and schemes, Will put you off your balance, or so it seems, Even all the kings men, Couldn't put you back together again And if all the balls come tumbling down, I can tell you what I told you before... You're taking me up to the seventh floor, I'm a-taken aback as you slam the door, you're so contradictory, So take it easy Emily Emily Emily

Lockdown 04:42
Well I'm sitting down here in a 10 foot room, Gonna stream a lot of TV in the afternoon, In a lockdown We're in a lockdown, honey I got nowhere to go and nothing to say, It's a miracle if I make it through to Saturday In a lockdown We're in a lockdown You can't be where you want to be... You gotta knick, knack, paddywhack, Keep it off the streets, Jack, Give it up or give it back In a lockdown, In a lockdown baby.... Well I'm a sitting down here in a 5 foot room, Cos the walls get closer by the middle of the afternoon, Lockdown, Talking about a lockdown baby, You gotta keep sharp, stay ship shape, don't deviate, don't believe a word that the papers say In a lockdown, In a lockdown baby.... You can't be where you want to be... I got a lover on the phone, I got nothing to say, Cos every other day is like every other day In a lockdown Talking about a lockdown, baby In a lockdown In a lockdown

First nobody knew what was wrong, Life would go on like before, Everywhere people would say: "An empire like this cannot fall". Numbers and symbols entwined, But who reads the signals? Hari Seldon tells the future, As the world decays, Hari Seldon, Can you help us find another way? Find another way? The clues were all there to be seen, The cracks in the pavements and walls, Still nobody else would believe, How slowly society falls, Numbers and symbols entwined, But who reads the signals? Hari Seldon tells the future, As the world decays, Hari Seldon, Can you help us find another way? Find another way? Soon as the exodus starts, People and plans on the move, Nobody seems to agree, What sort of life we would choose. Numbers and symbols entwined, But who reads the signals? Hari Seldon tells the future, As the world decays, Hari Seldon, Can you help us find another way? Hari Seldon tells the future, As the world decays, Hari Seldon, Can you help us find another way? Find another way?

about

RIGHT.... so I'm on a mission, if I'm honest. Jazz cello is a bit of a rarity really, an endangered animal even. Only few of the most intrepid musical explorers can claim to have to seen a jazz cellist sneaking around the most remote deserts and jungles.

My name is Rupert Gillett and I AM a jazz cellist! That's right, you heard right! WHAT, JAZZ ON THE CELLO, I hear you shout? Yes, it's true! And why not? Jazz has been knocking round for a while now, and has grown and blossomed into something truly multi-faced and varied. Why can't the cello join in the fun? Often proclaimed as the instrument "closest to the sound of the human voice", it seems the perfect beast for expressive improvisation!

This release is Part 1 in a series of E.P. releases where I try to place the cello in a jazz habitat, or even many jazzish habitats! There is a combination of styles and instrumentation choices that I have experimented with, and some vocal numbers for added measure!

So sit back, sip on the poison of your choice, and listen to the cello talk. It's been wanting to say something new for a while!
